Notice of Daylight
Savings Time
Jack Byrne, Municipal Affairs
Minister, reminds residents of the province to turn their clocks
ahead one hour as of 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, April 2 for the change
from Newfoundland Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time. This
change will remain in effect until Sunday October 29, 2006.
"As minister responsible for fire
prevention, I note that the switch to Daylight Saving Time serves as
a great reminder for people to change the batteries in their smoke
and carbon monoxide detectors," stated Minister Byrne. "The
importance of having these devices in proper working order can’t be
overstated. When smoke and carbon monoxide detectors work as they
should, lives are saved."
The minister also notes the
province is still considering making changes to Daylight Saving Time
to follow suit with the United States. Effective in March 2007 the
U.S. will extend Daylight Saving Time by one month annually.
"We continue the process of gathering
information with a view to making a recommendation to Cabinet in the
near future," the minister stated. "At this point we would expect
that this province would follow step with the rest of Canada. We
anticipate that there will be a consistent move across the country." |
