Situation in Indiana prior to 2006

Indiana is in the Eastern Time Zone in the United States and does not observe daylight Savings Time.  Eastern Standard Time (EST) is 5 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-5). 

There are exceptions: 11 counties - 6 near Chicago, Illinois  in the northwest (Gibson, Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Starke) and 5 near Evansville, Indiana (Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, Warrick) in the southwest of the state occupy the Central Time Zone and do adopt Daylight-Saving Time.  In addition, 5 counties (Clark, Dearborn, Floyd, Harrison, Ohio County in the south and southeast unofficially observe Eastern Daylight-Saving Time.
